Our Hut
We are fortunate enough to have our own Scout Hut which was put up around 1980. It is in almost constant use – every night in the week by scouting sections, plus occasional weekend events – so was beginning to show its age. We have worked hard recently to bring it a little more up-to-date, to keep up with the demands of a modern, inclusive Scout Group like ours.
Recent updates include:
- Modern, spacious toilets with disabled access and shower facilities.
- A new boiler and smart temperature controls, so we finally have hot water in the toilets and can wash up at the end of the night without boiling the kettle!
- New, energy-efficient LED lighting, inside and out.
- A permanent access ramp for the front door, to replace the previous foldaway one.
- New external doors and windows which are more accessible, safer and more energy-efficient than the original metal-framed, single-glazed ones
- Refurbishing the wooden block floor and giving the hall and lobby areas a lick of paint
- A brand new kitchen with accessible areas for smaller people or wheelchair users to get involved with the cooking and help with the washing up.
These improvements have made a huge difference to our young people and volunteers and mean the Hut can continue to support fun, safe activities for years to come.
